Job Summary/Objective:
The Mainframe Application Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, SORT, and VSAM. They will work as part of a global delivery team, collaborating with customers, business analysts, and IT team members to understand business requirements and provide high-quality technical solutions. The role involves taking a lead in the development of more complex application enhancements, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery with minimal defects. Additionally, the Mainframe Application Developer will be responsible for owning detailed technical documentation and providing support to the offshore development team.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, SORT, and VSAM.
- Collaborate with customers, business analysts, and IT team members to gather and understand business requirements.
- Take a lead role in analyzing, designing, coding, testing, and implementing more complex application enhancements.
- Provide general production support and ensure the successful delivery of projects within defined scope, target dates, and budgets with minimal defects.
- Own and maintain detailed technical documentation, system design, and program specifications.
- Assist in various stages of the project lifecycle, from inception to completion.
- Work in a global delivery model, collaborating with teams across different geographical locations.
- Provide guidance and support to the offshore development team to ensure effective project execution.
- Adhere to the organization’s current System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) standards.
- Possess knowledge of OpenText Exstream, which is considered a plus in the role.
- Solid understanding of the full System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.
- Proficiency in working with databases like DB2 and SORT in a mainframe environment
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in Mainframe Application Development using COBOL and JCL.
- Proficiency in working with databases like DB2 and SORT in a mainframe environment.
- Strong experience and knowledge of VSAM databases.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for analyzing complex application requirements and providing effective solutions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with various stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and lead project development and support activities.
- Experience in supporting and guiding offshore development teams is a plus.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
